    Responsibilities

    Prepare and perform standard practices, procedures and protocols as outlined in ASTM, AATCC, ISO and NALFA on Mohawk Hard Surface Products. The Technician is responsible for the physical testing, data collection, completing appropriate logbooks, spreadsheets and test reports.  The technician must comply with the requirements of ISO 17025, which shall be confirmed by annual evaluations, and bi-annual 3rd party audits.

     

    • Job Duties
      • Vinyl Flex Test - Testing for the flexibility of vinyl tile
      • Vinyl Static Test – Testing for the electrostatic propensity of tile samples
      • Vinyl Embossed Depth Test – Measuring the hills and valleys of the texture of the embossing on vinyl tile samples.
      • Vinyl Thickness Test – Measuring the thickness of vinyl tile
      • Vinyl Wear Layer Thickness Test – Using a microscope to measure the wear layer on a vinyl tile sample
      • Vinyl Abrasion Test – Using a Taber Abrader, abrading a vinyl sample to determine wear characteristics.
      • Vinyl Chemical Resistance test – Checking the resistance of vinyl tiles to various cleaning and household chemicals.
      • Vinyl Static Load – Measure the maximum load a vinyl tile sample can take in a 24-hour period.
      • Vinyl Deflection Test – Checking the deflection load at 1 inch using a Tension Measuring Device and special jig.
      • Vinyl Heat Stability Test – Using an oven and spectrophotometer, determine if there was any fade.
      • Vinyl Light Stability test – Using a weatherometer and spectrophotometer, determine if there was any fade.
      • Vinyl Indentation Test – Using a Dektron Indentation Device, a vinyl sample is checked for residual indentation.
      • Vinyl Dimensional Stability Test – Using an oven and calipers, size changes are checked as a result of exposure to heat od vinyl tile samples.
      • Vinyl Dimensional Tolerances Test – Measurement for the actual size and squareness of a vinyl plank.
      • Vinyl Size and Squareness Test - Measurement for the actual size and squareness of a vinyl square tile.
      • Specific Gravity – Checking on the specific gravity by submerging a sample under water and measuring the mass differences.
      • Coefficient of Friction – Determining the force to get a sample with a 50 lb loab to start moving.
      • Thickness Swell – Measuring the gaps in seams after exposure to water for 24 hours.
      • Large and Small Ball Impact Resistance – Measuring the affect oF a dropped small or large ball on a vinyl tile sample.
      • Surface Bond – Measure the bond strength of the wear layer attached to the laminate using a tension

     

     

    Qualifications

    • A minimum of a High School Education (GED Equivalent) or 2 years related experience is required.
    • Shall have visual acuity equal to or greater than 20/40.
    • Shall have good color vision, to be confirmed by Munsell D-15 color vision test annually.
    • Must be capable of lifting up to 60 lbs. numerous times a day.

    Required Competencies

    • Transport test samples between various sites or facilities.
    • Perform calibrations as described in specific test methods.
    • Be very well organized and make sure the Hard Surfaces area is always neat and kept in good order.
    • Needs to be able to comment on reports any observations that were not expected and could have caused the test to give questionable results.
    • Must be a detailed technician. One who will question all aspects of the test and be sure of the test accuracy.
    • Be able to get along with technicians, work leaders and supervisors and recognize that good communication is key to a good relationship.
    • Be able to meet with other managers and engineers and talk about your test activities.
